Architecture
Charles Matz's approach towards the architectural design process is technologically innovative and style-neutral. A deliberate strategy set into motion, at the outset of a project, to nurture the development of an appropriate vehicle and material expression of a building's unique narrative. The resultant shape, spatial organization and structure strikes a resonant chord with the aspirations of individual or organization commissioning the work. Rather than focusing on the stylistic constraints of current fashion, basic design methods are used within the overarching philosophical, historic and practical requirements of the project to promote the building's longevity.
Interior Design
In context of constructed architecture, the realization of the enclosed, inner layers of a building are considered for their textural, tonal, chromatic and material qualities. These specific areas of focus define the success of the human experience within the environment. The building gives to its visitor, at the level of its interior makeup and scale, a cobbled story of light, sound, feel and space. Most of all it renders a coherent, premeditated, artistic composition of mood. The amalgam of localized sensory elements are central to the building's unfolding identity. The essence of the practice of Interior Design is the orchestration of these elements at a human rather than monumental scale.
Graphic Design and Fine Arts
Disciplines are individualized by their specific mediums and the mastery of the languages those mediums are spoken in. Sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and design share threads of a common vocabulary. Artists then choose how to express ideas by deliberately selecting formats within their discipline. These individualized methods of expression rely on craft for their execution.
